Slipping Seatpost

Hello again,

I bought a p7 off Ebay a few months ago, and have a problem with the seatpost always slipping down unless I tighten it up so much the QR bolt is actually bending

Its a 95 frame with a welded clamp, so unfortunatly its not a simple case of buying a replacement clamp.

Is there 'owt I can do?

Cheers.

Has the post been polished, or the seat tube had the rust stripped out with a drill mounted brush etc.
This could remove enough metal to make it a little loose.
As said you could try another post or see if a "coke can" shim will fit.

another for the coke can route or should you wish a proper shim.

I remember my old c16-r had a shim in and yet was running the original seat post

According to Orange, it should be a 30.0 post, but in later years they went over to using a 27.2 post with a shim - that could be one solution.

The other thing that strikes me is that you say you're using a quick-release clamp. I have always found them weak and I wouldn't give up on the post until I had tried a proper allen key clamp.

Try "gritty grease" not sure of the technical name. My LBS donated me a finger full for my slipping seat post and it's not been a problem since.

I think it's expensive to buy so touching up the LBS for a freebie might be worth a go.

Yes please, you terrible flirt.

Thanks for your input fellas. On closer inspection it is the top of the tube that is stretched. I'm going to try a coke can insert (after pouring the coke down the toilet first).
