Slingshot on Seth's Bike Hacks

Pretty informative video. I like the idea of the bike, but the take away for me was that if the rear flex joint at the seat tube/top tube is suspect, you are SOL on a replacement. At that point the bike becomes a dedicated wall hanger. There is one for sale on ebay UK for 700£.

Saw that, decent video but he always seem rather clueless when it comes to retro stuff, his videos on modern stuff are usually informative and to the point.

Slingshot is one of those rides I have no desire to own, as said, it is destined to be a wallhanger and conversation piece. It's not a rider. Personally, I think it is an ugly design as well. But a beautiful historic piece of retro experimentation.

Like you, I have no desire to own one, but I wouldn't mind trying one. I have often wondered if there would be a market for a retrobike experience where you could spend a day trying out a few different rides (a bit like you can hire a vintage car for the day). Knowing the average retrobiker though, it would have to be practically free 🤣

At my weight it's safe to say I'd not dare ride a slingshot, unless there's an on site dentist that'll do the work for free :D

I don't see any retrobikers hiring out their bikes, especially the odd ones, without being given an opportunity to ride next to the person for the next couple of hours talking of how the mtb scene really peaked in 85, how gravel bikes don't exist and they're really just retro mountain bikes, how elastomer suspension is all you need (but actually no suspension is best) and other interesting lines of conversion.

Are you sure it wouldn't end up being an outreach program for cavedwelling retro hoarders?

Set up the ride like a demo day. The person borrowing the bike leaves their driver license and they take the bike for an hour or two and return. No conversation about the good ol' days needed. At the main tent you are 'too busy' to talk other than 'how was the bike?' and 'here is your license back, good day.'

But what's the fun in that? :(
