Slick tyres

They didnt last very long, the sport contact. I was actually a bit disappointed with them.
Ditto. Went through two sets in just under 3 months I think. As you would expect, commuter miles only, no end of punctures and on one, the sidewall blew out. For the price, they are rubbish - the gatorskins are much better tyres, and so far, have outlasted the two sets of sport contacts (though an absolute swine to get on and off the rim).

I use Continental Sport Contacts in the 1.6 size on my touring bike and I've had about three thousand miles out of each rear tyre. Much more from the front. They do have a fairly soft rubber compound which does give good grip even in the wet. I really like them and I'm on my third set of those tyres.

I've also used Conti City Contacts which have some more tread on the sides but didn't seem to offer any additional grip.
I also rode to Switzerland with a borrowed Panaracer Pasela on the rear after I discovered a split sidewall on the City Contact hours before setting off. I found the Pasela to be very good too. I've been meaning to get a set for a while now, especially as it's still available in skinwall.

For commuting I used to use Halo Twin Rails, as they have a large comfortable 2.2 volume, puncture protection which kept out glass shards for over 2 years and they roll fast when pumped up to 50+ psi. Great for just under 6 miles each way throughout the year.

I've recently been trying out Schwalbe Marathon Plus 1.9 tyres on another bike for now occasional commutes (I now work from home). I haven't been that impressed with them to be honest. I've had a front wheel slide out while cornering on a dry road which hurt a bit and they are heavy too.
I think the harder compound rubber which gives good long term durability means that they don't grip too well for cornering at higher pressures.
