Skewers - where do they go?

And no I don't mean where do they go on the bike :facepalm:

What I mean is why is it that people seem to be selling wheel or hubsets but without the skewers?
I even bought a set of wheels on eBay not too long ago that were photographed with a fairly rough looking set of skewers, but arrived without them, fair enough they weren't mentioned in the ad, but again a set of wheels that got separated from the skewers.

I can understand keeping upgraded skewers that are bought on their own, but wouldn't you put the originals back on if you were selling a set of hubs/wheels? I've always been one for keeping things paired up, but it seems that that is lost on some people!

I have a box of them. Maybe 10-12.
Only 3 pairs.

I don't know where 3 of the odd ones came from.

I threw about 20 away. As they were beyond use. (or salvage)
