But look, you can work the forum. You can post gifs!

Are you just desperate for loads of people too stupid to post a photo on a forum to join in on here? When they do it won't be that great. Look at Facebook if you need any evidence!

You've got a point there...

The site is retro like the bikes, think of the site if you will like a fine steel frame with a set of thumb shifters. If you try and ride it (or use it) like a 27.5 all mountain rig (that is probably not even a thing anymore) you may be disappointed. Treat it with care and respect and you shall be rewarded. Or something.

Would be good to update to a newer platform. Have run trial migrations and looked at other platforms. The issue as ever is time, not a straightforward exercise especially given some of the custom code, things like the gallery etc.

That said it (mostly) works and pages (here at least) load and render just fine and reasonably quickly. I'm sure some of the perceived lack of activity here can perhaps be attributed to the old platform and my own lack of involvement. However the game moves on, social media is all encompassing, don't think this is the only site which as lost traffic to Facebook and the like.

To address a couple of issues raised

*emoji. Yes. I do need to sort this short term, bloody annoying.
*drag and drop images. Is this a thing on any forum software? The attach image feature still seems to work reasonably well on my not that retro iPhone.

A good point indeed - This site is free, and it is super easy to post pictures. People merely can’t be bothered to put in the effort; they give up and say that it is a total arse and a faff. Read the bloody error pop-up and resize your picture to 1280 width as instructed…. And don’t say that you can’t manage that on your phone – get an application that does it, or better still use a proper computer. Failing all that, use a picture hosting site.

Here is an example of a Newbie & first time poster who managed to add eight large and detailed pictures of a 1988 Explosif that they were selling.

I would say that if a Newbie who is posting for the first time can manage to add eight large detailed pictures, then any seasoned member should be able to do the same. Just put in the effort, and help the RB Community.

AND, while I’m highlighting those who can’t be bothered, please use the Site’s search facility to find the answer to a question that you need. It works fine, and has been invaluable for my research into compiling the Kona Titanium, Kona Hot and Kona Ku Serial Number Lists.

John made a good point; Treat it with care and respect and you shall be rewarded.

Now go and sit on the Naughty Step.

I’d agree with all of that except the use of picture hosting sites, they’re just too flaky imo

Of course following comments previously site has been down this morning. Great.

Re:

Not wishing to moan, because I love this place, and I am comfortable with retro tech. I am grateful that the site exists and I can live with the downsides.

But it could be so much better... the picture resizing and hosting IS an issue, at least to me! Let’s say I want to clear out my parts stash, I’ve got 10-20 pics to resize and upload, or post to a photo hosting site. It’s a time consuming process.

Now if I’m selling a nice bike and there’s some value in it, then fine. But I have boxes of stuff that going to go for anything from karma to a tenner, say... it’s just not worth the hassle! The sales section would be much busier if photo uploading was easier.

Oh, and can we do something about the categories. Surely we’re well past the point where anything post 1998 is modern! It’s daft because most of the activity is in the older “proper retro” category. It particularly annoys me because I like bikes from the late 90s and I’m always missing stuff... but have to trawl through pages of actually modern stuff to find it...

Keep up the good work though, as I say, I love the site whatever the downsides.

Do you not have to upload pics on other sites then? Literally takes seconds to resize pictures, and you can do them all at same time, not 1 at a time!

EDIT; and the pictures actually upload quicker onto here than evilbay! but in either case, we are only talking seconds :)

i think a lot of peoples gripes would be solved by increasing the maximum size of images that can be uploaded directly. Cameras have come on a lot since we started here, even if our bikes havent.

my fairly average old phone creates photos in the 2mb range

What are you using to resize photos? Everything I’ve tried (iOS or pc) has resulted in a slow process and in iOS usually being bombarded with advertising too. Sometimes picture quality suffers too...

I’ve found that listing stuff on eBay with the iOS app is super quick all round. Also found that stuff sells more quickly and for more money on eBay - but that’s not the point. I’d rather it went cheaply to someone on here.
