Any more sit up and beg than a Cleland and it's called a recumbent.

The problem is that Cleland Cycles ltd went out of business in 1984 and so they are very rare and seldom come up for sale.

There were other Cleland style designs made by English Cycles and Highpath Engineering, but these are even rarer.

I am 6'2" and have enjoyed riding Cleland style bikes since 1984. Unlike the Schwinn, the Clelands' frame geometry is modern except for the shorter top-tube and slightly higher bottom bracket.

There has been talk for a while now, of Cleland style bikes being re-produced by Brant Richards of Shedfire fame. If this does happen I suspect that riders with neck, back, wrist problems etc would very interested. These bikes are not only comfortable but very capable especially when fitted with top quality modern tyres.

All my bikes are gates, cant get any bigger, I'm 6'6".

What I need I think is something with a shorter top tube that forces a more upright position.

I can convert anybike to something comfy but it'll look fugly.

Just wondering if any proper retro mtb's had a more upright position

this any good to you?

i don't think you can get any more upright than this. plus you get a basket to carry your goodies to boot!

I have built up bikes with BMX bars which does solve the upright issue just looks weird. Looks least weird with fat tubed bikes, looks like an upscaled BMX bike.

I also already have a Raleigh Twenty project but if I make that too upright it looks really stoopid.

Highpath would be great if cash was no object

But geometrically very similar to the Highpath behind.

This Highpath impersonator is based on an medium (18.5") 2005 Giant NRS with a long vertical (though adjustable stem) and an 450mm seat post. (I have a 35" inside leg measurement)

And the NRS Has a similarly high bottom bracket when the suspension is run with no sag.

The Highpath has the advantage that its 650b wheels can be run with big, high air volume tyres and still have loads of mud clearance. The NRS has smaller 26" wheels though its suspension gives it the advantage on technical climbs and rough downhills.

A small framed (16.5") is an even better geometrical match though even with a 450mm seat pin it would probably not be high enough.

Im a 34" leg and i think thats over done.Whats the frame size ?
