Singlespeed advice

AGGGHHHHH!
SingleSpeed? How can 1 gear be more complex than multiples??

Right, Spring switched so that I can push up. Now my chain tension is too loose. Cannot remove a link as then too short, so looks like this is the alternative...remove full link & buy a half link to plug the gap or fit a larger rear sprocket or front chainring. (Would rather fit a rear sprocket)

Ideas part 2??

Just get one of these, once you've ascertained that you'll be able to lose one pitch (1/2"). You'll need a couple of master links too.

Ghost ring is good but you need to have the chainline well inboard which is often impractical as regards ring choice.
Half links are a simple solution but they can stretch more easily than normal chain, you can get BMX style chains entirely composed of halflinks which makes chainlength tuning a doddle.
Changing the ratio can help if you realise 2:1 is too high or too low for your particular needs. Look up a 'magic gear calculator on google to find a ratio that takes in your chainstay length for that perfect fit.
Twin jockey wheel tensioners that work like a rear deralier can take up more chain slack and still ensure good chain wrap.
I've even heard of people filing the forward face of their axles down or fronts of dropouts if a chain tension was too tight to allow a perfect chain tension fit.
The options are various and as much down to your enginuity as much as anything ;)

........The spacer next to the lockring overhang the freehub body by about a couple of mm, so have had this machined down to fit near enough smack on the edge of the freehub body........

I wouldn't have done this as they're supposed to overhang the end of the freehub body, as a cassette does. It's done to make sure that everything is correctly tightened and any play is eliminated.

As far as the ghost ring tensioning is concerned - why? :? Yes, it looks cool but it's even worse than using a tensioner pushing down, as it lifts the chain away from the sprocket at the top and the bottom. As far as I'm concerned tensioning the chain upwards is best as it wraps the chain around more of the rear sprocket, which spreads the load over more teeth. With the high loads on a ss drivetrain surely this makes more sense? :?

the best tensioner i have found is one of the bb mounted ones, pushing up under the chain ring.

Any links?? I am googling now...

I agree with jamabikes, and perfect if you want good tension and wrap.

try these

Blackspire Stinger

this type may be better for single speed though as they are fully adjustable once locked behind the bb.
DMR chain reactor

yep have used the black spire one on a ss for a while. now use it as a tensioner on the full susser too. very nice bit of kit. superstar do a similar one for a couple of quid less too.
