I know they run them in some air forks, not sure if these are air or all elastomer though

Tapered steerer and elastomers, I like it!!

To be fair some of the elastomer forks I've run (RST Mozo Pro, RST Delta TL) have been better than the Suntour XCMs which seem to be standard fair on new bikes costing up to around £500. I wouldn't necessarily turn my nose up at a modern fork that used them.

Re:

Hmmmm, they just look like tokens that you use to change how forks blow through travel. Don't think it's anything to do with the damping.

At the risk of sounding dumb - what does that mean ?

Who does it work - one leg packed with baffles and air has to get past it ?

Re:

From the limited knowledge I have (I just leave my modern forks stock) the more tokens you use the less linear the travel is. You are basically taking up space that should be filled with air. Some people prefer their fork to go through it's travel at the same rate, some prefer it to be very active and the beginning of the travel before becoming progressively harder to compress. Settings int it, people like to fiddle with settings.
