Does anyone here know the correct cable fitting on a juy 60 rear gear {circa 1960} . I can see the face plate comes off and the cable runs inside the gear . Is it then just a matter of fitting the cable to the screw on the end of the toggle chain and refitting the face plate . Any help is welcome

Oooh, you got one of these then?

I always wanted one after seeing photos of Anquetil using one in the Tour. I'm sure I've seen a photo somewhere of one with the 'front' off and thinking that, in effect, it was basically only a TdF model 'wrapped up' so to speak. I would imagine that cable fit and adjustment would be similar to the TdF model - but possibly a bit more awkward?

Yes that's the one . Only a small grub screw behind face plate which will not keep enough tension on the cable . I have a Tour de France model on another bike . No issues when fitting that one . Will have to check with the chap who passed it to me .
Also have a Juy 56 front mech which I am told is quite rare .

The problem I have with JUY 543 and 60 is having a length of cable sticking out after the retaining screw, cutting it to exactly the right length is tricky. The extra rubs on the inside of the face-plate and I worry that it might push it off, not so much a problem on the 60 as the face plate is better located than on the 543 (not all, but certainly the one I have). On one 543 I piushed the cable through, marked the length, cut it, epoxyed the end then loosened the lever to relieve the tension, tightened the retaining screw, then re-attached the lever. I have thought of leaving a couple of cms extra and pushing the excess down th pillar that contains the toggle chain. As it happens they all work and I havn't lost a face plate.

Interesting comment , ties up with what the chap who I had the gear off has told me . Does the cable hold its tension with just the small grub screw clamped to it?
I have tried it without replacing the face plate and it just pulls slack on moving the lever . What stops the cable just pulling itself out of the grub screw ? there seems to nothing to stop it .
I am missing a part or the plot ?

Re:

Dragging this up again ;)
I have now sorted the cable run and adjustment out and the mech is working fine . However the wrap of the chain round the jockey wheels does not seem right .{to me any way} Does anyone one here have one of these set up?
I have looked at several pictures on the net + in a catalogue I have and they all look different .

A picture of one set up would a great help . Thank you in advance .
