Signature builds

It has to be a Kona.

I have a preference to silver hope Ti Glide hubs on mavic 217 rims and Middleburn cranks - but that is a trend more than a law.

My signature - rigid forks (usually RC30s), cantis (if there is a rear canti stop), Syncros post and stem, Flite, flat bars, barends, thumbies, SPDs, Middleburns. I consider my imaginative and varied builds a key strength.

Ok, so being a bit mischievous, does the signature build indicate that we have 'dialled' in our preferences by experimentation over a period of years and know what works for us? Or does it signal up a "know what I like and like what I know" approach that shies away from trying something new?

for me it would be , Flite , SPD 737 .

but my next build will have none of those and it should be my nicest so far .

Altek levers
SDG
Race Face Turbines
Deore DX

And an extra helping of Yummy!

I think it is a bit of both, speaking personally.

I know that flite saddles have always been comfortable; they are light, durable and comfortable. There are probably modern equivalents which tick all the boxes barring, but I know that Flite's work for me, so whist they are fairly readily avaliable I'll stick with them.

A fairly similar analogy with Syncros posts. I've use a selection of posts that have creaked, cradles have snapped, refused to stay adjusted in the position I have set them to or have successfully done the job for a few months then displayed a trait from above. I then used a Syncros post many years ago that has not given me a single issue and continues to work today as do all I have subsequently fitted to other bikes in the fleet. I know that Thompson post etc are equally as flawless components, when the day comes that a Syncros post is not commonly available I'll make the switch and will have to have faith in the consensus of other riders feedback that brand 'x' is quality rather than acting on my own reissuance that a certain component works.

Certain components and systems have improved as time has passed, new processes and materials have been designed which achieve greater strength or level of performance..... However some components reached their pinnacle of design many moons ago and were made without compromise. The marketing guru's would love us all to believe that things have come on in leaps and bounds. In some instances this is true, with others it is purely spin to get you to part with cash to replace that perfectly functioning component.

every one of my bikes since 98 has had the same orange pair of dmr pedals at some point . my feet are probably contorted to suit the dx shape  its surprising they havnt snapped or worn out but saying that they sadly have a crack so they are not long for this world

years ago i was known to have an immaculate bike to obbsesive level , my bmx was light before the current trend took off and usually rubbed a ti flight .

for a few years all my bikes would have a slightly broken or worn out part

also ive drilled all my rims for the past 10 years
