Hi guys.

The original photo was taken with a tree behind me and the sun very low in the sky behind that tree, causing only some of the bike to be in direct sunlight.

Where the sun hits the bike it does make it look blood red: my phone camera seems to exaggerate this. It's much, much brighter that the catalogue, yes, but it also appears darker than the '94 blood red to the naked eye.

I imagine that the catalogue photographer was trying to be arty with the heavily faded colours.

Here's a photo from a week earlier which is not in direct sunlight and captures the colour more accurately...

1991 stumpjumper comp. Pretty much period correct except for the rear wheel, the dt hugi hub is too nice not to be used. The other day a friend asked whats wrong with my bike. Did not bother to geek out, he’ll never understand 😝

Beautiful bike. You've got the original seat skewer that I'm missing. Looks like the same Deore LX groupset as the base Stumpy, but they exchanged the rear derailleur for an XT. I can't tell from the photo: is it a Deore LX front derailleur?

Front mech (and all the rest of it) is lx. I don’t know if the xt rear derailleur is an upgrade installed by the owner. I got it from the original first owner when he renovated his garage. The saddle is not the original one though… but he kept the pedals and cages. The FutureShock even seems to keep the air. IMG_3118.jpeg IMG_3115.jpeg

Not mine, just a pic I stumbled on the web. I've never seen an example nor pic of the 1994 Stumpjumper in "Blood Red" though its listed in the catalogues. The more common edition is the green one. This one is mostly original so posted here for reference and interest.
It differs from the prior year's red edition by having threadless headset (still 1" though, the only year of a 1-inch aheadset on Stumpjumpers) and stem, decals are white not yellow, other differences include the umma gumma tyres, grey perforated saddle, grips and groupset.

@CannedHeat 's red 1993 and @Once A Hero 's green 1994 for comparisons:

My near mint 1984 Stumpjumper Sport along with the 1989 Stumpjumper Team I just picked up last week for my son. all original except the seat, stem, and bars that I believe the previous owner changed out for more upright riding. I will be changing those out soon to something more correct. The previous owner had no idea what she had and tried to turn it into a cruiser. On the good side, she sold it to me for $90,
