Re:
Hi,
Just joined to share my excitement after finishing what seems to be a 1995 Rockhopper FS (can't find it in the catalogues, though), together now with my 1992 Stumpjumper Comp. Fitted moon bars with 20+ degree backsweep on both to tame down the geometry. Had Conti Mountain Kings in 2.2 around but only 17mm rims on the Rockhopper, thankfully the tyres are more like 1.95 when mounted. And the rib cage on the Rockhopper maybe 2016 but to me it's a nice match for the team red color of the frame and shows just how well the bike was treated by the previous owner...
btw, both have cro-mo stems and aluminium bars (stock and now), and I can't remember how often I read that this is not a good match security wise. However, while investigating in those bikes I learned that this combination was absolutely common during the 90s. Is there a consensus here, any known problems / incidents with those vintage stem-bar combos? Just want the gf to be safe on the bike that I got her ;-) thanks!
