show us your Rocky Mountains!

I can't remember where I've been dumping history posts, but here will do today.

Few more bits you may not know (but this time with evidence)

The Thin Air was our first aluminum frame at Rocky, and the initial production year reflected our lack of experience with TIG welding on thin-walled tubing. That is why I brought Frank up to help us with developing the world class skill we were able to show the World.
I am the designer of the Thin Air and was head of our frame shop "Everest Manufacturing"

The Thin Air was the lightest frame Rocky Mountain produced, featuring the best Easton tubing available at the time. It (and the Vertex) were designed to compete with high-end alum bikes like Yeti. In 1992/3, Rocky Mountain hired Frank the Welder (FTW) as a consultant and spent some time at Everest (Richmond BC) to teach welding, heat treating, powder coating, and production techniques. This explains why the first year of the Thin Air and Vertex look like Frank's welding style and not Toyo's (Experience and Cirrus). The Thin Air checked all the boxes and despite the features and FTW influence, it's always been puzzling to me that the Thin Air didn't achieve the cult status it deserved.
