hi there!
here's my GT avalanche '92 in the very hard to find BAJA BLUE colour (GT had their Mexico base/branch in Baja California in those days... see the pictures...); the 'normal' colour for the 92 avalanche was white...
got it last week from a 71 year old man from Zurich for 150 SFR (150 $)!!!
he had bought it in 1992 and the bike has seen very little to (probably) no use at all... it's one of the first paintjobs with the later famous blue/yellow combo. i could only find about 5 pictures of this 'baja blue' avalanche bike with google, so i thought i should add a few more... it is an awesome bike!! except for the saddle and the tires (which had been removed and replaced with something according to the original owner's liking when he bought it) the bike is 100% original.. and MINT, almost NOS! NOT A SCRATCH!

hope to return to baja california in the future and ride my 'baja blue' avalanche down to cabo san lucas, like i did in 1994...

p.s. of course, the old man i got the baja blue avalanche from had NOT replaced the tires and saddle in 1992 with a selle italia slr in yellow (that was ME two days ago), nor the tires with ONZA canis 2.25's .. that was me, too....

GT Zaskar LE

GT Zaskar LE, XTR M900 groupset, recently replaced the cassette with something else, will get a XTR M900 one later, brakes are XT UII, wheels were made by Harry Rowland. The bike is older than I am right now, I may make a post on this on the Reader's Bike section later on.

I really like the blue as well. $150 was borderline robbery, though :x

If I were you, I'd be concerned about the grease that was fresh 20+ years ago. If you haven't already done so and before you ride it too much, you really should consider replacing the grease in all of the bearings. If you don't know how to, or don't have the tools, have a shop do it.

It would be a real shame to have the hubs, bottom bracket, or headset fail because of some petrified grease that could no longer do its job. :|

And keep an eye out for the reproduction gumwall Panaracer Smoke and Darts that are available periodically. They'll look a little more authentic than the Onzas.

thanks for the nice feedback and the advice! i have already made an appointment at my local bike shop to exactly deal with the grease problem...
concerning the "robbery" ...well, it is the price he asked for in an ad... but it actually DID feel a little like a robbery, to be honest. but he was VERY happy to have finally (!) found a good place for his bike which had been collecting dust in the cellar... he obviously wanted to get rid of it! god knows who else he had offered the bike to before the ad...

Got mine for equivalent of $75 ... never hit the BIN button so fast in my life.
If people weren't happy to part with it for that much they wouldn't advertise it.
