mtb history

Started in Feb '90 with new '89 Saracen Traverse, steel, Mountain LX - sold to mate's wife next year, she's only just retired it.
Bought white '90 Trek 7000 alu new in early 1991, stolen in July '91
Bought new '91 blue Trek 7000 with insurance . Replaced early DX sti with thumbies & loads of other upgrades but stayed with rigid. Still got it with slicks for commuting. Took it to USA on hol in 93, 94 ,95. Rode it on Mt Tam, Moab, Durango, Vail, Mamouth Lakes, Steamboat Springs - Raced it in UK + 3 early Polaris Challenges. Love it.
Got into roadbikes &duathlon for a while.
2003 bought new 2002 Trek 6700.
2006 bought s/h '04 Airborne Lancaster ti. Upgraded to Mavic Crosstrails & Rebas. Always wanted a ti hardtail. Hope mini's etc, nice.
2007 bought s/h Diamond Back Axis TT steel, black paintjob. Modernised some components, very nice ride.
2008 bought '94 ish Kona steel hardtail resprayed so not sure what model.
Got dibs on work colleagues '93 Explosif when he drags it out of Dad's garage.
Regret not buying a Breezer when lbs had them back in early '90's.

Oh My God

1967 Raleigh Hustler, cowhorn bars, converted from 3 speed SA to 4 speed SA, sprung Brooks saddle, CX tyres, Quill pedals. I sorta had to wait awhile for the Yanks to catch up, all my M8s had 10 speed racers, thought I was a weirdo (most still do) I split my Knee cap in half bunny hopping over tree roots in '69 when the SA gears dropped (as they did regularly) I also had a Tiger Cub Trials bike and a bit later a Fantic then a YZ 100, MX then started work and well the list of bikes would be endless, had an original Stumpy, Raleigh Mustang, Raleigh M-trax/Dynatechs, various Mongoose and Falcon, Dawes, Ridgebacks, Muddy Fox, Marins, Oranges, Pace RCs, Kleins a plenty (all broken frames), Kinesis, GT's of all types, Various Yeti's loved the AS 3s xc, Fishers, Cannondales, (a lot broke) Have to say of them all, still prefer GT's ride and reliability (how many do you see broken? very few!)

told you about my stuff but guess I should have mentioned the other stuff in the family:
Caro bought a 16" Saracen Traverse when I got my 18" one, Feb '90.
Stolen at same time my white Trek 7000 was.
Replaced by 16" blue Trek 7000 when I got my 18" one, Aug '91. It's cool having matching his n hers bikes IMO.
She's still commuting on it, like me.
Few years ago found her a lovely 16" '94? Kilauea. Plain dark blue, thumbies. very early Judy XCs.

Son's bikes (he got me into it):
Peugeot Ranger c.1988
'90 Rockhopper in pink-ish red. Stolen when we lost our 2 bikes
'91 Rockhopper Comp in metallic green. He loved that one but altercation with a car resulted in trip through shop window that left him with scarred nose & broken bike. Stripped for parts - I still have the forks!
'92 Marin Pine Mountain, XT thumbies & Dia-compe SS7 levers fitted from new instead of early STI with compensation.
He grew up, lost interest for a while. Pine sold to a mate of mine. He might still have it.
Returned from round world trip, bought 2001 Trek 4700. Not up to the demands he put on it (seems to do 34 mph down most hills)
Built up Stumpjumper FSR, now living in Australia but returning to UK this summer for 2 months when he'll borrow my Diamond Back.
