Re:

1985 Norco Monteray SL - bought to commute to Uni. Discovered that I loved cycling on that bike.

1988 Rocky Mountain Fusion - Discovered mountain biking as a student. Used my student loan to buy this one after using my brother's Ritchey Force (same bike) for a summer. loved that bike. Pounded the crap out of it. Hated the U-brake. Sold to fund upgrade to...

1991 Stumpjumper FS - Hated this bike. Fork was like a noodle. Was crap for BC riding. Only bike I wore the rim out on. Sold to fund...

1998 Norco Sasquatch - Upgraded with a Bomber z.5. Started riding the shore on this baby. I broke so many bits on that poor old bike. Sold to fund...

2004 Kona Scrap - Needed a bombproof bike to replace Sasquatch. Gave frame away.

1996ish Hillside - Got frame cheap and built it up into a commuter out of spares. Broke frame :( wonderful bike to ride. Same designer as the Cove Stiffee apparently.

2004 Kona Stinky Delux - bought warranty replacement frame lightly used off fellow from CraigsList and built up with parts from Kona Scrap. Sold because I wasn't riding it anymore after I had kids.

1994 Norco Rampage - wonderful bike. Too small for me. Sold frame.

1996 Zaskar - built up with Rampage parts. Upgraded bars to club roost and added Bomber Z.4 fork. Still have it - for now.

2000 Rocky Mountain Hammer Race - bought frame and built up with fork and parts from old Hillside. Its my winter commuter - hate it. Its going to change.

1993 GT Edge - This is the bike I use for Fondos and Sunday morning group rides. Basically its the road version of the Psyclone. If the Psyclone's ride is anywhere near this bike's, I want one!

1982 Diamondback Ridge Runner - in process of being "restored".

1991 Bridgestone MB-2. Plan is to replace the Rocky Mountain Hammer Race frame with this once I've fixed a ding and repainted. May become a cool drop bar build.

Bianchi Rekord 910 - picked up on eBay from someone in Texas. This is going to be my L
Eroica bike for 2016.

1994 Kona Cinder Cone - got most of the bike except drive train recently. Plan is to repaint/powdercoat, re-decal and rebuild using the Zaskar bits and then move the Zaskar frame on.

Re:

Updating the 2008 post

1986: Greyhound City 5 complete with bullmoose bars. I'm too small, bike is too big. 3 years later bike is too small.
1989: Bickerton Mean Green x2 - insurance replacement
1991: Claud Butler pagan or Spectre - it was debadged within minutes of purchase to leave just the 531 decals
1993: Zaskar Le - not horrid in any way and is still here.
1996/7 ish - very early Marin Mt Vision, 95' Kona Kilauea - promptly stolen
1999: 99.5 model Cannondale F3000SL disk. Probably the worst bike I'd ever invested money in
2000: Marin Wolf Ridge with the Hope upgrades - never ever give me a credit card...
2003: On-One inbred. Lipstick/ pig
2004: Dawes Sardar
2007: Claud Butler Dalesman - disappointing. Airborne Black Widow - too small.

Those were the 'new' bikes, add a few pre-RB rebuilds. There were A LOT.

Post RetroBike: Overbury's, Rockhoppers, Stumpjumpers, Eddie Mercx, Harry Quinn, Steel GT's, Konas, Kuwahara, British Eagle, Pacific, Saracens, Trek 9000, Marins, Verlicchi, Vitus, LTS, Zaskars, SBDU Raleighs, Proflex,

Around 300+ at a guess, hundreds of tip finds, road bikes

I had to call a halt on the madness and am still paying off the credit card.

Current stable is 98' Marin Mt. Vision x2, 99' Raleigh RSP300 853, 98' Claud Butler Professional 853, 93' Zaskar LE, 91'DB Sorrento, 71' Norman Fay tourer, 87 British Eagle Force 18 (a BE I'm proud to have!) and a 2014 Bobbin Scout. The hobby/ habit (hobbit?) now has to fund itself, one in, maybe one out.

The local tip has changed contracts and I rarely go there. Everything is crushed so I try not to think about the waste of the waste too much.

I'm unlikely to ever own many of the big American brands such as Klien, Fat, etc unless luck plays a hand

Hmm, okay my turn :)
A couple of Hand me downs as a child,
first new bike: Raleigh Roadrunner SS.
Raleigh Wayfarer - salvaged from the bike sheds of the Durham College I lived in - definitely abandoned, so I rebuilt it and used it for years.
I then started working for Halfords and got the bug:
1989 Specialized Hardrock - too big but the only size we had left and dirt cheap after staff discount.
Got the Mrs a Hardrock Comp afterwards. It was better.

91 Dynatech Sentinel. Stolen.

93 Kona Fire Mountain with Specialized Future Shocks ( Cooksons told me that RS Quadras were an option, so I ordered one on that basis but they weren't. Shop was very good and let me have the FS for the same money. Came with RM17s instead of the Bonty rims specced. Later fitted with Pace RC35s and any amount of purple nonsense.

97 Marin Rift Zone. Bought with money my dad left me when he died, I loved this bike. added a girder stem, Answer DH bars and 636s. Did me until 2000 when my life went bonkers. Sold to fund (essential) Premier Signia drum kit as I went pro.

Long break.

Short return involving a Saracen X ile as a commuter (!) in 2001 and a Saracen Ikon as a keep fit whim in about 06.

In 2009 a Marin Alpine Trail procured as a commuter. Unwise as journey 13 miles each way. Sold. ( bad move, lovely bike for offroading, would have another in a heartbeat)
Giant Hybrid. Unworthy of attention.

Discover Retrobike.
Cannondale Hybrid on Bike to work scheme.
91 Dynatech sentinel from classifieds - sold due to idiocy - will soon be replaced.
96 Rift Zone - ebay bargain, brilliant ride and currently rebuilding to my original's spec. Every bit as good as I remember, got all the bits for the rebuild bar the 636s.
A second Rift Zone as donor bike so now I have a bunch of spares too.
This rebuilding lark is fun, especially when the bike is such a great ride.
