Great thread this one! In order:

It all started for me with a Raleigh something or other; single speed 26" bmx style bar, can't remember what it was called though

Raleigh Discovery

1993 Kona Fire Mountain

1994 Marin eldridge grade - ended up with middleburns, chriskings on 117 ceramics, etc, etc.
1996 LTS team

1996 Gt LTS DH

1996 Kona Lava Dome

1997/8 Santa Cruz Chameleon

1995 Kona Turner DH (the Gold one, pre stab)

1992 Kona Cinder Cone

1998 Spooky Bandwagon

1999 Raleigh dirt/slalom team frame (still have with some Spins and a child seat on the back)

A few years off...

2003 Specialized Enduro

2004 Santa Cruz Chameleon (still have)

2008 Specialized Stumpy FSR (still have)

Found this site a couple of years back, due to kids, house, etc. Haven't picked up anything 'retro' yet... have loads of inspiration and ideas from here and working in bike shops in the early/mid 90's!

1. Sunbeam (not sure if Raleigh or not) - yellow and kind of Chopper shape. Didn't get on with this too well so didn't really do any cycling till I was about 11 !

2. Some weird second hand Raleigh grifter style thing but with smaller wheels and no gears. Had a red seat and possibly red and silver frame. Striker possibly ?

3. Raleigh Mustang - the first back and white one. Weighed a ton and the chainstay snapped on it. Got it repaired and then the bottom bracket fell apart.

4. Saracen Tuff Trax - blue one with 7 speed Deore Gears and Exage brakes. Black and silver chainset. Cornered like it was on rails - had a lot of fun with this and got me into biking properly.

5. Orange Clockwork 1990 with Flexstem and mix of Deore and xt bits. Stolen. Police didn't manage to do anything about it.

6. Orange Clockwork 1992.

7. Orange Evo 8.

1955 $5 used balloon-tire one-speed with a bent fork. I bought it with my own money. It was all I could afford because my parents wouldn't buy me a bike or teach me to ride one. I have been overcompensating ever since.

1958 Three-speed Hercules Hawthorne when my parents decided I could have a real bike. Within a week I ran it into a parked car, bending the fork and it was never the same.

1960 to 1970 The Dark Years. I didn't own a bike.

1970 Used Schwinn Varsity. Within a couple of weeks of getting this pile of junk out of my friend's basement, and realizing that I rode it faster than anyone else I saw on a bike, I upgraded to a...

...Used Peugeot UO-8. Steel rims, straight gauge tubing. Took my first 100-mile ride on this bike. Gave it to a friend when I got the...

1971 Peugeot PX-10 Too big, and after six months riding it, sold it and got my...

Colnago! I got 30 years out of it before the frame snapped.

1972-1978 A succession of increasingly modified "Klunkers." I broke every frame.

1978 Breezer #2

1980 Ritchey (sold)

1981 Ritchey (sold)

1982 Ritchey (buckled frame)

I'd be interested to know what you think of 29'ers

Everything I ride these days is better than everything I used to ride. Also more expensive and requires more maintenance, but now the bike shop gives me celebrity treatment. My experience with 29ers is limited to the one I ride, although I briefly used a couple of others that were supplied to me on road trips.

Now and then I notice a little "wheel flop," but other than that it's just a bike. The Hifi climbs better than the bike it replaced, although I couldn't tell you why, and I can turn the tight switchbacks just as easily on the big bike as I could on the 26.

Took a '70s klunker out for a film shoot a few weeks ago. I had forgotten what a brutal, brakeless ride that was.

1995 Carerra Mission upgraded everything. Moved everyting onto...
1996 Zaskar

Then bought a second hand Dyna-Tech to race on as the Zaskar had become a play bike. Fitted with XTR parts, X-lite stem and Ti bar, L&M cranks, steel Pace fork, lite and fast!

1999 Coyote DH2 (lovely orange and black theme with Velocity Deep V rims)
2000 Cannondale F700
2002 GT i-Drive
2003 Surly 1x1 & SC Bullit
2004 SC Super 8
2005 Turner RFX & Turner XCE
2008 bought my 1998 Zaskar
2009 Corsair Marque

The 1996 Zaskar still resides with the family friend I sold it to along with the Ti dual crown rigids that originally came with the Dyna-Tech. He won't part with either.
