Nowhere near as nice as the other FSRs in this thread but it has a few redeeming features you guys might appreciate. '99 Ground Control bought as a frame only off a mate in '99. As you can see the rear shock was broken and was repaired before I bought it. Was repaired at a motorcycle shop so was professionally done. Has lasted 14 years so must have been done OK I guess. Has seen a lot of different builds. Current one was done 18 months ago for my son. But it's too heavy for him. Kids these days!
Close up of the repair. Really needs some love this bike. The old Rockshox Coupe Deluxe is just about rissoled I'm afraid
BETD linkage bought in 2001 from memory. This bike has also seen a Mountain Speed linkage with a Stratos Helix Expert but I swapped that for a 150mm rear hub and wheel when I bought a DH bike in 2003.
Rear end is all original but a bit battered and bruised. Disc brake adapter from Specialized. I know these are in demand around here so I might ask my LBS guy if he has one or knows where to get one.
Favourite bit of kit on this bike are the (I think) '99 JR Ts, bought second hand in 2003. These were absolutely mint when I got them, still had paint on the drop-outs. Had no use for them at the time as I had just got a DH bike but they were so pretty and going for a song so I got them. Put them on the FSR about '05 when I realised I couldn't DH, couldn't even crash well. Anyway was quite happy riding these around as a daily rider till I got hit from behind by a blind/deaf old lady. Insurance wrote them off and paid for some new Z1 Drop-Offs (2003/4 model) which I still ride to this day. The crash took a big gouge out the bottom of the right lower, as you can see in the pic , and bent the brake arch to the s*******e. So I bade my time and kept checking the auctions and a couple of years later my patience paid off and a brake arch came up for sale that I got for less than the shipping. Got it on the fork and everything looked good but it wasn't until I built the bike up again 18 months ago that I could confirm it was in good working order. It is and it feels bloody beautiful.
Anyway looking at all the beautiful FSRs in this thread has given me the motivation to take better care of this old beauty. Thanks for looking.
