Show me your....

I've got to admit, you don't get alot of control with them. The brakes can be hard work after awhile especially if you ride on the 'hoods', this all adds up to a very sketchy downhill experience. :D

I actually really enjoyed riding with them on the recent South West meet on the Quantocks.... who needs bike control anyway. ;)

But singlespeeds have some advantages in certain circumstances, and I'm all for something a bit different, but only if the difference actually offers some advantage in some conditions.

sorry, don't want to appear narky - just looking for some answers :D

I think Chris has touched on it...
It's halfway between a cyclo-cross and an MTB. Those of us that want the experience but don't want to shell out for a full blown cyclo-cross bike. Just like you can buy road bikes with straight bars.....

For touring it's the stronger wheels, plus ability to go to places a bit more off the beaten track that pushed me towards a 26" wheel.
Old steel MTB frames are cheap, strong and great load carriers.

Why drops? A variety of hand positions to prevent numbness, and low enough when beating into the wind. But I wouldn't see much point in riding my drop bar mtb off road when there was an alternative.

I've ridden that old Marin all over the place, including the Slickrock trail at Moab, down the USA Pacific coast, The Great Ocean Road in Australia, in NZ South Island and commuted to work on it in Singapore for two years. I've also toured in Spain and the Alps on it. Nowadays it does a few CTC and Audax UK events, usually when it's the wetter days. It also pulls No2 son on a trailer, and having Magura drops makes for a reassuring braking experience.

I just did it because it was different , and after seeing Kev Yeti .
Being a Colnago frame i thought it would be cool to use campagnolo stuff on it .

one thing led to another and here it is .

it will probably be sold in a few weeks when another steel beauty arrives .

It's the latest thing - a 29'er with drops.
