Should I buy an On-One?

Back to the frames then.... Was dissapointed with mine, heavy, poorly aligned brake mounts, poor paint for starters. Felt leaden and lifeless when ridden, turn in was poor, climbing was poor and even though I bought a 16" it was too long and made steep defending painful as the seat was right below my nads even at full stretch.

If it's a new frame you want, save a little longer and get a Cotic Soul. Much better all day hardtail and doesn't get flustered when you hit the rough stuff. They seem to hold their value better too if you should decide to sell on.

Just my 2p worth.

Yes Perry, and I'm sure that every product you own, from the house you live in to the underwear that you slide into every morning has been designed, manufactured and marketed by people of impeccable repute. Not a malingerer or adulterer amongst them.

I take it that before you buy something from a fellow retrobiker you check that 20 years ago they treated their girlfriends ok do you? Thought not.

thats just silly but if someone knew someone personally and had a valid opinion about them i am glad to hear it if it would help decide where my money goes

would you give a quid to a homeless chap if you saw them spit at someone walking past

would you also give a quid to the homeless chap if someone walking the other way said ( or wrote as it needs to be published ) that they saw him spit at someone walking past

the cotics look nice , very nice . far from cheap though :( i might be able to afford a 2nd hand one in about 5years

Cotics are OK, agreed, but I want something that will use up my old fashioned wheels before going over to discs one day in the future.

Well... He appeared to treat her with contempt and a total lack of respect. He also appeared to be actively working to destroy her business, almost like he felt threatened by her independence.

Eh?

This is presumably about Smart Tart? Deb Bennett?

Feel free to continue bringing up things from over 15yrs ago if you want - no flies on me from that era (with regard to that).

Petty, petty, little man bearing grudges. Odd.

Actually, I'm absolutely bloody livid about this.

Quite happy to be accused of being grumpy, making bikes that the paint falls off, all sorts of stuff, but to be accused of, over 15yrs ago, "actively working to destroy her business, almost like he felt threatened by her independence. ", when she was living rent free in my house, I designed the frames, driving to trade shows and races... utterly bizzare.

She jacked it in and went to work at Stif, as I recall. It's a long time ago.

Odd agenda Grahame.

Probably not

It depends on how well I knew that person and would consider what his motivation might be for telling me.

Of course, neither of those are the real question. What the question really is

The whole conversation then becomes a bit crazy and I'd start to question the person's motivation even more, particularly if they were no more than a very casual acquaintance.

Even if any of this is true (and quite frankly I don't care, but then I don't own an On-One either), have none of us ever done anything we might be embarassed/ashamed of in our youth? It's often through those experiences that we grow up the most.

So to the original poster, certainly take all of the comments made on how the frame rides. Consider the price. Remember that a new frame doesn't stay new for long. Consider the price again. Decide what you want. If you must, consider rumours, have a biase towards Yorkshire folk, consider if the whole Zak Tempest thing was touching on madness and then consider the price.

anyway, i still like my inbred. took it for a spin last night. first frame i have ever felt in control of downhill and in the air, not that i am some sort of air hero you understand

Er, ok guys. The car now has to go into the garage for some work so all bike spending plans go up in smoke.

At least Brant has had a chance to answer his critics though. Let's draw a line under this thread!
