Shortening shimano disc hose

I've done this many a time, but not for a while. Is it best to do it from the lever or caliper end? I'm thinking lever, but just want confirmation.

I will of course measure twice, cut once and use new barbs once done.

It's for newish deore if that makes a difference.

Yes lever. New olive and little brass thing for inner required.
