Any recommendations for a short rear mudguard for my Rockhopper, I have tried an old Crud one but it sits too high. Not really a fan of them as they spoil the aesthetics but not a fan of being muddy either.

What about one of the ass-saver type things that clips under the saddle, and looks a bit like a duck tail? I've got one on my modern and it works quite well.

Those are different than mine.
These are the Ass Savers Win Wing. They’re sold as gravel racer light weight mudguards but they work on anything. Keeps the bike clean and the actual ass savers themselves can be switched out easily. The side frames holding the seat stays are very strong and won’t budge once they’re set in place, and can be attached/removed tool free. Definitely a worthwhile purchase in my opinion.
