Old School Grand Master
Chromica finish

Hi, Gent.I'd definitely be keeping the crank arms and looking to replace the rings as a minimum, alternatively yeah another STX-RC chainset to keep the period looks instead of modern stuff. This is where the headache begins, buy a group set or another bike, strip it for parts, "Ohh but it's too nice to chuck so I'll rebuild and sell it." And on and on until you have a garage full of old half done bikes and need to build a shed.
WELCOME TO RETROBIKING!!!
BTW if you do replace the crank arms I'd consider buying them off you. I love the nickle plated STX, STX-RC stuff.
To me... please others chime in if I'm wrong, the front mech looks like its sat about 5-7mm too high on the seat tube, which might be causing the issue being experienced.
Ahh, so theirs a highest chainring tooth, good grief ive got some learning to do about chainrings and derailer's, your wealth of knowledge is so valued, and iam glad you are prepared to share it.You make a good point ^^^.
Might be worth dropping the front mech down slightly.

I will take a look at this sick-lizzard, thanks, so the slipping may not be the actual chain rings?, simple adjustments i can do..
i will also take some more specific photos too, ive just returned from a 20 mile ride with the some shifting issues
ive done a quick small adjustment and will road test tomorrow, i also notice some wear to the front mech looks like the teeth were too close at some point? is that significant?, any opinion about the chain ring condition, i emailed Shimano to see if they have anything as a compatable replacement or as close as? you never know, thats if they take pity and reply to me.It should help with ability to drop from big ring to middle... the slipping could still be down to wear etc. if its still slipping get the chain rings sorted, mixing worn with new will prematurely age the new bits...
also what condition are the jockey wheels in on the rear mech?
