i'm looking at getting some new cleats for my original XT 737 spd's , but there now seems to be a few different models . My old cleats model are SH 50 , but now there seems to be SH 51,52 and 56 !! will any of these work with these pedals ? Or are any others that will be compatable ?

I think I am right in saying that only the 858 SPD's required special cleats (SH52's). However if you bought those SH52's they would work with all the other Shimano SPDs. 'Normal' Shimano cleats will not work in 858's though - only the SH52's.

To answer your question I *think* they will all work with your 737's.

Some are single release (normal heel rotation release) and some are multi release (release with sideways rotation as well).
Which are which I can't remember off-hand, but I'll check in the morning.....

*Edit* - fortunately some people stay up later than us old folk and have answered this anyway .

SH51 are the standard ones. SH52 are the weirdy ones for 858s. SH56 are the multi-release deathtraps :)

The easiest way to tell the difference without the part numbers is that the multi-release cleats are silver, the other two are black.

SM-SH51 are 4degree float
SM-SH52 are 6 degree float
SM-SH55 are zero degree float but multirelease... best for casual users/commuter

They are all compatible with M646/536/424/323/545/515/505/324/a515 ...
the SH52 though often cited as being M858's, That is only because that's the cleat you have to use with them, but the cleat works with the other pedals.

for your pedals

SM-SH50 (zero float) is the recommended on for the M737/525/323, though SH55/51 will work with it since I doubt you'll find any SM50's ;). SH55 giving the same zero float, but the multi-release and SH51 giving 6 degree float in this case apparently

not for M535/747 pedals though the float is 2degree and not zero and 12 degree not 6 apparently

Anyway all info interpreted from Sutherland 6th (737/747 info) and 7th (top part)

cheers everyone for your input , it sounds like they all should work so maybe i'll have to try some and see how i get on .

what's the shiz on the multi release? they sound like they'll be ejecting feet all over the place?
