right im not the brightest spark in the fire, ive got some cantie's on a bike ive just bought, and there BRM900, it looks to me like there 95 xtr. just want someone to confirm or correct this.

Take a look in the bike faq section. There is a link to the Shimano M numbers and what they mean.

1st generation XTR canti's.. That's BR-M900, if you google it that way you can get a confirming pic.
