Have you checked the girth too? It's important too, otherwise it's floppy all over the place and could drag in mud.


6 speed was more than enough with plenty of stiffness.

Hi,
the largest sprocket I use has 28 teeth. I really don't need a grounded bike. F.e. Shimano XTR (952 GS) rear derailleur is even shorter. In my opinion, a short cage has several advantages. But it must be compatible with the range of the drivetrain.
