Sorted Shimano freehub Spacers

Sorting out a few wheel sets and the most logical way forward is to get the 9 speed freehub which handles everything cassette wise that i will need. But i could do with some spacers. i can get them for £3 each on ebay or could some one do me a deal ?

Buy an old worn out 7 or 8 speed cassette and crack it open.

they are usually plastic. Would that work to build up some decent spacing, or might it be too soft and needs to be metal? I'm wondering this as i need to pack a freehub to make single speed

I've used the plastic ones no problem for singlespeed. I've even used white waste pipe, cut with a pipe cutter.
