@jordic1968 the incompatibility is because the first Dura Ace 8s rear mechs had a different cable pull per click (and therefore shifters to match). Essentially it's pretty close to 9s cable pull per click.
As a result you see some later barcons marked 8/9 speed - depending on the rear mech.
