Thanks for finding this very valuable and timely guide – I'm preparing to completely renovate my old Clockwork over the next month or so. There's a lot of nice old parts requiring some tlc.

I vaguely remember this somewhere back in the mists of the dawn of time.
I live near the end of the Piccadilly tube line near Cockfosters (steady missus!), and hear them clocking off at night. They never sound like good ole Casey, just a pathetic peeeeep.

I'm wondering how to banish the damp and 'refresh' the display faces of the thumbies, short of some Blue Peter magic...

Re:

I would suggest a very light application of oil on the parts rather than grease - that might be too thick/sticky and attract grit and stuff...
