Shill bidding?

Could do, but if this is indeed shill bidding (checked their policy) that would just leave the "seller" winning the item and to win it myself I would still have to over-bid

Have told ebay however... see what happens

I guess what I wanted to understand was whether you want to win this - knowing you've probably been played, or just get the hell out of Dodge and live to bid another day?

In your shoes, I'd just want out of this - if people are prepared to shill, surely they're prepared to stiff you in other ways too.

If you retract your bid the seller has to agree which would leave the seller or his/her mate and the next highest.
Or more likely a pulled and relisted item with a starting bid of your last bid.

Well, its seems its the only one of its kind, in a condition that I would be happy with, in the UK, for something that I am desperate for... however I wont be stupid and get sucked in.

It ends on Sunday, so will see what happens next

Thats good to hear, I guess they can see who was bidding and whether or not they bid on a lot of their auctions.
Now you just contact the buyer with a reasonable offer ;)

That particular line has been baited, cast into the water, and I am patiently sitting on the riverbank with a big mug of tea
