A friend has given me his mtb, a Dawes Edge 531 tubing mtb with Rock Shox forks for me to do up for him. The bike is a bit tired and needs a bit of tlc.
The front forks are Rock Shox mag 21's but feel very soft and bottom out quite easily.
Are these forks servicable and if so are there any good web sites with step by step instructions on how to do this?
Thanks in advance.

the forks are air-oil, chances are they just need pumping up to make them feel firmer. you use a needle valve like you would for a ball, and inflate to mid-40's PSI.

I've just overhauled a pair and they are as new now :D

If you first remove the screws at the top of the fork legs ( middle of adjuster dial) that gives access to the air valve.

Using a needle valve adapter ( I use a football one - NB I'm not saying this is correct) depressurise the legs.

Then using a cone spanner remove the top caps - being careful not to also catch the adjusters.

Once out the oil can be changed.

Reverse process et voila!

or just download the manual  :D

I'm no expert but mine work fine now.

PS I used a track pump to get them up to pressure.

PPS before adding air tip the forks upside down - this coats the air valve in oil - helping with the re pressurising.

Good luck

Excellent, that's a great PDF.. Has anyone here added the Long Travel kit to a set of Mag 21SLTi :?:

You need a special tool ( not included in the kit  ) to take out the cir clip at the bottom of the leg (internal)

Looked into it as had seen a couple of kits recently....then gave up - looked too hard  :D
