I'm still running a set of MK1's I had handbuilt to Mavic D521CD's by Gary at GA cycles in Southampton back in March '98 as part of my Team Marin D.H.
Amazingly given the life they've had, Still going strong and running silky smooth to this day on original bearings, freehub etc! albeit they are somewhat pinker than the day they left the Hope factory though (they were red!)......
They make for an immensely strong, stiff wheel due to the increased flange size and reduced spoke length, and whilst they're a bit heavier than the average hub, they're not ridiculous so you get a stronger wheel with negligible penalty with regard to rotational weight..... and they look like Talon motocross hubs
