Sellers regret?

I had a nice Overburys that made it into MBR and another now defunct magazine, it was a keep it or pay the mortgage moment

I had to sell but at least the bills were paid

I have 17 bikes now...!

More car sale regrets than bikes (1966 british racing green MGB GT, 1978 RS Mexico in venetian red both sold back in my mid 20's) but the bike that I regret selling is my Hei Hei, sold to a fellow Retrobiker who lives in Hungary and has some great trails to ride locally but that is the one that got away.

Mine was a 1968 Lotus Elan in really nice condition sold 19 years ago for a lot less than half of what a basket case/resto costs these days. I know it was 19 years ago as it was while my eldest was on the way - would never have taken her in it having seen a crash damaged one - they don’t fare well in even minor accidents.

Man, if I'd had an rs Mexico, that would never leave. Amazing cars. I got to drive an rs 2000 on a rally day, much preferred that to the Impreza. You feel connected to everything, I'll never forget driving that. Many lust after exotic cars, but the simplicity and raw nature of it was something else.

I know its not retro, but my most recent commuter bike (sold due to lock down and not using, and used my main hardtail more) was a 29er rigid On-One Inbred which rode really nicely, both commuting and ragging it through the forest. It also had an old rear hope bulb hub in gold that i owned since new too, both the bike and the hub I severely regret selling. Silly thing is i ended up selling my main trailbike hardtail too to fund more projects. In hindsight i should have just sold my trailbike hardtail first and could have kept the inbred.

Always kicked myself for getting rid of my Dawes Galaxy mk1. At the time I could not think of ways to upgrade it to a more modern spec but now I know what I could have done. That bike road sublime and I put it through terrain the modern gravel set would be wary of, never a foot/tyre wrong. Ah retrospect is a annoying thing😢

A 1983 Escort RS1600i springs to mind - sold it for £995 as nobody wanted them in 2004
I sold a 1979 VW Sirocco with less than 30,000 miles on the clock, it had been bought brand new by an engineer for his wife who then sadly had a stroke, he gave the car a full service once a year, a proper service mind, a virtual complete strip down and rebuild, and he took it for a short drive every Sunday if it wasn't wet, otherwise it lived in the garage for 30 years, bought it for £600 in 2008, used it for a while but sold it for £2,000 a few months later, still regret that even with the profit.

But nothing beats my mum, inherited a Hillman Superminx convertible from an uncle in the 1980's, mint condition, but she left it standing in the garage where it gathered dust, the tyres went flat and it looked to all intents and purposes like a pile of junk to the untrained eye, I was only a nipper myself so wasn't old enough to understand what was happening when a bloke offered her £75 for it, she just wanted it shifted so accepted, a few years later she rang me at work to say she'd seen it in an episode of some drama series set in the 60's. Probably worth a few grand today and rare as hens teeth.

Only “bike” I’ve ever regretted selling was my Yamaha Fs1e “Fissy” for £50 in 1985. They’re worth thousands now 🤦‍♂️
