Seeking info on a Raleigh frame.

Please could anyone shed some information on a frame a friend of mine owns, he bought it about twenty years ago and it has lived in his loft eversince. Its a blue Raleigh with reynolds 753 tubing, the tubing has an aero cross section and the frame number is SB5098. I dont have a picture to hand but it does look a bit special.

Raleigh Team frame from the Raleigh Special Products Division?

Google Raleigh Team frame and see if you recognise it (images)

The Special Build (SB) division used a serial number SBnnnn, assigned sequentially, starting in 1974

Aero cross section?

That would be the short-lived Reynolds 531 Speedstream tubeset, not 753.

SBDU = Special Bicycle Development Unit.

Midlife's post contains a link to the Lightweight Unit off the peg frames NOT SBDU frames. The framesets on the Radpropaganda link are not all SBDU ones...the framesets with a"W"prefix are Worksop (not the same).

P.S or your friend's frameset is a "ringer".
