got one bolted to the wall with a motorbike lock, then rest are locked to each other with abus d locks and cables.

most of the family work for ADT alarms so the place is like fort knox, not to mention the want to beat thieving scum to death with a rusty appollo

I think a rusty Universal would be better my self!

Interesting stuff

Sounds like time may not have changed since BITD in this respect then...

It always was a very bad plan to leave a really great bike out overnight as it would be picked of it's goodies at some point even if the locks weren't attacked

But sometimes frames/spokes/components were cut - or the locks defeated

I saw a video on youtube of guys who tested people's give a &%^$ levels to witnessing a guy hacking away at a bike lock

They locked up various bikes they owned around New York then attacked the locks with various tools, no-one gave a damn

It's almost comic take a look here

Sadly they only took on regular padlock and chain

I've often thought if a thief had high viz on we'd probably all assume he worked for the city or something, but maybe you don't even need that

Have any of us ever had a bike nicked that was properly secured?

either a D lock or cheap wire lock depending on how long i'm going to be. Or if a bike shop then take it in as they soon come over and talk mtb of the 90's

It does help if you own a trimble though....no one would steal it anyway

Had my first one stolen back in 93 got it back a year later in Fulham they had painted it pink

My wife has a 9mm Glock.... Oh, and she's a Police officer, also mace and big ole night stick thing... I send her downstairs in her bullet proof vest for any bumps in the night.

I know what you mean about people not reacting to thefts, I was in a communal bike shed the other day with a large spanner (12" adjustable) removing the front wheel of my bike as it had a puncture when security walked in looked at me and then walked off, didn't even ask what I was doing. What made it worse is that I hadn't even bothered to unlock the bike from the racks.

I too take mine in the shops. I just stroll around with it like its a buggy or something. No-one has ever said a word to me....
