Had a conversation in work today about bicycle security

A few opinions - A few actual choices - and some accounts of thefts - bandied about - I thought I'd see what we all do

Whether any of us carry our weight in D-Locks or perhaps some of us just use a couple of zipties :D

Oh and look at this Apologies if you've already seen it

I use security skewers and seat post, a one metre motorcycle chain with heavy duty lock and stare at people whilst I'm locking it up :x

It's my daily ride so I can't be without it

I take my bike into all the shops I go into....the bank....the post office.....the suprmarket etc.....just do it and look like it is normal.....no probs....cant leave my bikes anywhere,,,,,, :roll:

same, if you do it like it's a normal thing people don't seem to mention it to you, if you ask they say "no" :roll:

as far as home goes the 4 most expensive bikes are hung in the garage from the rafters and are locked with a motorbike lock and cable, then 3 of the retro expensive bikes are locked with motorbike chain lock against the wall. the back door is re-inforced and the front garage door cannot be opened because of the way the bikes are hung.

oh, and it's alarmed.

it's a bugger to get to some of the bikes sometimes but that's the price you pay for having nice kit these days :roll: i tend to leave the most used bikes in the easiest place to get at them which means the bikes swap places depending on the time of year etc. also, i don't let people see them unless i know and trust them.

if i have to lock my bike which i try to avoid at all costs i use a d lock and a steel braided cable type one, as i read somewhere that thieves usually have one preferred method of stealing and will come equipped with either a pry bar for the d lock or bolt cutters for the wire, but rarely do they carry both.
I never feel calm though when i cant see the bike

Items still to be made ;

Seat keeper being made, just needs an eye swaging on the end;

Thinking of converting my brake levers so the can be locked on with the pads up against the wheel, a parking brake sort of thing.

Was thinking of fitting audible alarm too.

I need it for daily use, locking it at college is a worry, but at night, it lives in my house.

A selection of interesting security fixings ;

A complete p.i.t.a all this security stuff, but the society we live in we need it.

When I go for a pootle off road, all the security stuff is removed.
