It's a FAT TUBE seat post and the one that came with the bike when it was sold in 1991. In fact, it's a very interesting seat post in that its interior is not hollow but has a cross that goes throughout its length to reinforce it. I am not describing it too well. Will take a picture and you will get the idea.Are you 100% sure the seat post is the correct size?

These use a specific size post, quite hard to find, 29.4 from memory.
Every time I had problems with slipping posts it was with aftermarket skewers (including the one @Panolgano is using). And every time it was cured by mounting a bone stock XT 730 one. Not good for my OCD and weight weenie tendencies, but me and my therapist found a way to cope. Just don´t look down while riding.
