Hi need help on fiting a seat post.

I can't seem to get my seat post in the frame pass a couple of inches. And I really don't want to cut the post.

The frame is a 1990 Ritchey Ultra, according to specs it suppose to fit a 27.

Is there a way to ream out the seat tube.

thanks,

Will.

Sounds like the post is too big to me. Have you got, or can you borrow, a 26.8 to try?

I was once told that my Orange Prestige needed a 26.8 post by the shop I bought it from and it turned out I needed a 27.0. Sometimes manufacturers can change specs of stuff if the original parts can't be sourced and they don't always tell anyone.

A lot depends on the distortion in the tube from welding or brazing. Makers gfit a smaller post occasionally to save on th hassle of reaming.

I've a Dawes tandem and the front and rear posts are 0.2 different!

If all else fail I might go with 26.8. But I just scored a really nice seat post that will really go well with this bike.

don't really want to spend more money either.

My P20 is a 27 fella, it is a nice snug fit, have you made sure the seatube is clean on the inside ? should not need reaming..

I would turn the bike upside down and use some fine wire wool, or depending if you have paint in the tube use some fine wet and dry.. ;) or both.. :)

The top of most seat tubes splay slightly ,this is why it will only go in a couple of inches, the tube then narrows to the diameter of the specced seatpost then it widens again

Nothing simple eh ;)

As you said ream it.

And decent cycle store will be able to do it or know someone that can, or take a trip to your friendly engineers digs

If your brave you caould even buy an adjustable reamer in that size for what someone will charge you to do it - got to love cheap import asian tooling eh
