Sealant for tub punctures.

Okay, lifelong tub user, and I'm not changing now. So let's put that to bed.

Wondering has anyone tried using puncture sealant on tubs? I rarely get punctures, but anyway I bring 3 tyre levers with me to get it off quickly, so that's not much of an issue, and I'm moving again in a few minutes, but then I got thinking about sealant, and not even having to take a wheel off certainly appeals, especially in Winter.

Effeto Mariposa sealant works very well. I only added a few ml once I got a puncture, but it sealed up fine straight away. You can add as a prevention too.

I've used Orange Seal for the last 3 years.
Originally butyl tubes, latex the last 60 miles.

Discovered tubulars 3 years back and I've had 3 flats since then:
1) Didn't know about sealant, 1oz in each tyre fixed it
2 + 3) Apparently you need to top up, 1oz lasted a year.

So basically no flats that weren't my own fault in about 3.5k miles.
I now add 1oz every 6 months.

We see punctures in sealant-filled tubes every week.

Sealant works well on small holes
Thorns and the like.

It doesn't work on larger glass cuts or pinches - so you'd be unwise to ditch the spare.

Using sealant like the mucoff in tubular tyres will prevent certain flats😃
- the disadvantage is that it adds a little weight, requires a small amount of maintenance, and can gum up the valve.

Tubulars have removable valve cores though - so keep a spare to hand.

- this might also allow you to clean the old sealant out after a couple of years, on a little used bike?

I only ride my tubular tyred bike in summer, so there's a chance the sealant could pool and dry in a lump.

We had a tubeless the other day with a golf-ball sized lump of latex rolling around inside!
Different compound though obvs
