Scrapyard challenge - Carlton build

neil the wheel

Dirt Disciple
Hi All, I found this 1979 (I think...) Carlton frame at Recycke y' Bike in Newcastle. It included the transmission and brakes but no fork. I'm not too sure what frame it is - it had no rack mounts and side pull Weinmann 500 brakes.

Now it looks like this:

I didn't set out to do a restoration, just trying to get a "look". I hope you like it!

Cream bikes look very classy and unfussy, one of my favourite colours. :)

Carlton's ride nice too.

It's a Carlton Clubman as I had one when I was doing my apprenticeship also. 79 model. Nice comfy ride so enjoy it.

I thought the Clubman had rear dropout mudguard eyes?

Just out of curiosity what's the frame number

Re:

The frame number is WL9000778. I thought it looked like a Clubman too but why no rack mount? Don't be misled by the fork which is from another Carton - possibly one of those ladies' frames they were doing at the time judging by the baby blue colour it arrived in.

Yep I correct myself as I found a ripped photo of my old clubman & it has mudguard eyes.

The forks look suitable & neat, original or not.
Good job done there. I think it's very nice.

Well done: )
