Scottish Retro Bikers

Old and New School DH racer and rider, done enough Xc too for a life time

Based in Edinburgh and up for hitting up the tracks to work off the cobwebs!

Mtrax might even be running by then

I'll try and scan in the coverage of the race from MBUK, also have a race article from the race at lochaline, somewhere, that might take some more digging out!

There was also a photo of the start of the youth race from lochaline in an article about Derek Purdy in Singletrack a year or so ago.

I remember him also covering the Fort to Fort race one year, never found the actual press though, which was disapointing as I amazingly won it that year.

Think it would be good to do a meet in jan. maybe central so just let us know when you are onshore S. and we could plan round you?
Am offshore for a week on the 5th - 12th Gaz. I fear i won't have a retro steed available though as most are in bits and the Hot is in Campbeltown

smallest race in the world

Lochaline race: I was there the first year it was run (as was Derek Purdey).

It was the cause of the wreaking of my first MTB: when driving home through Glencoe I had to brake for a sheep and a young driver ran into the back of me, wiping out my bike which was on a rack. Sadly she had just passed her test and had been celebrating. I think she failed her breath test!

I got the insurance money okay and used it to fund a Proflex which I had to wait for as they hadn't reached our shores at that point. It was an interesting bike, but I preferred the steel Stumpy. This was all pre SPUDS for me if memory serves.

Hey,

I've been looking for pics from old scottish downhill races. I rode in the EBC downhill/uphill event at Inners (up behind the golf course) way back in the 90's, i think I was a junior then, and I remember riding in the first race that Tom from Bikesport organised around 99 on the other side of Innerleithen. I raced regularly at various rounds up until 2001 on my Scott vertigo (which I still have!).

Anyway, if any of you guys have any pictures and can post them up that would be GREAT!!

Brilliant website!

Cheers
Steve

DaveDownhill posted some pics from that era in innerleithen, I was in the EBC uphill/downhill race too (seniors):

I wiped out on the log pile on the outer edge of the last bend, took the long 90 degree corner at 30 with completely the wrong line, hit the logs, over the bars, ripped my knee, and staggered around dazed till some one shouted I was only yards from the line, stumbled across it with my bike and came 68th. :( I reckon I would have got top 20 otherwise.

I'd love to try that one again.

Sounds harsh! That race was epic, I seem to remember they sent the riders off two at a time, eliminator style! The guy I raced beat me by a long way, I couldnt hang with him on the first flat-ish forest road section! I'm pretty sure I finished in the top 20 though.

Incidentally, do any of you guys remember Pump magazine?

This stuff should be archived!
