Scott Srike swing arm cracked...

Hello chaps and chapesses. :)

In a somewhat long shot stylee, I need some help!
I have an '02 Scott Strike Limited (which I've owned/loved for a good few years). A few weeks ago I noticed a crack along the top of the weld on the rear shock mount. There's also another crack on the pivot clamp. It's a Scandium swing arm, so I have reservations about getting it welded.
To cut a long(ish) story short, it looks like my only option so far is to take a chance that an FX swing arm will fit. I can get hold of a brand new one, but (via Evans Cycles) it looks like it's going to be priced at £450-500, which isn't going to happen.
So apart from keeping an eye on Fleabay and the like, I'd be interested to hear if anyone here has any ideas (or preferably a new or lightly used arm which they are abosolutely desperate to get rid of! )

Cheers! Dave. :D

Lovely bike

Take it to a local fabrication business or find a local frame repairer there are a few about these days they should be able to help you out fella

Re:

Sadly a common fault on those bikes , had a strike pro , same thing happened , nice bike yes but , ( over 10 years ago used it in the Mountain mayhem ) those where the days ;)

Re:

Thanks Kev. The problem is that it's made from aluminium with a few percent of scandium. The scandium makes the aluminium 50% stronger, so less material can be used. Welding (heat) misalignes the molecules and reduces strength. I know a very good aluminium welder, which makes it more frustrating!

Re:

Yep, seems common on the aluminium swing arms too Rob. FX's seem to suffer the same. It appears to me that the mounts are a touch too wide for the shock ends..
