Schwinn Cruiser 1988 Wine Red

@Imlach - I went to the last page / post straight away. You haven't disappointed. Going to top up my glass and start at page 1.

Cleaned up the cranks a bit, replaced bearings, both in headset and cranks. Bought some seat guts which were incredibly finicky to install, took me over 2 hours because.

Chain is too slack but that will be sorted in the future.

Had to file down the front dropouts to accommodate the front wheel. Will probably replace fork with a P2 if I ever find one in 1"

Put on the cheapest tyres I could find. For now the goal is to make it rideable, then over the next couple of weeks and months I'll be replacing bits and making it into an episode of Pimp My Ride.

I'm thinking a black set of cranks with a gold chain ring, I'm thinking a front rack for stashing a 12 pack, I'm thinking a nice sturmey archer wheelset, I'm thinking thicker tyres.

With a p2 I could easily run 2.3 front and rear.

I like that saddle. Very handsome looks quite similar to a Pearl I have!
Might need a bit of adjustment tho unless that makes you happy!? 😆

Nose down a bit more, but seat guts are the most fiddly shite I've ever encountered in my fecking life it's unbearably stressful to adjust.

Anyways I've added some bars but I'm detecting a slight bit of movement in the stem, and since the bars are cruiser ones with plenty of backsweep I reckon I'm putting a lot of leverage down. Not super keen on that. Wish I could run it ahead atm. It's flexing a little bit backwards, and it's been yonks since I ran threadless (more than 4 years ago) and I can't remember if it's normal to have a slight flex like that.

I've never had one of these Schwinn frames in my hand....so I'm wondering here....what's the headtube size? It looks big enough for a 1 1/8 steerer to me? Maybe convert to ahead and get the style of fork you want?

Just took it for a spin and it rode nicely. Definitely needs a better gearing, which means new cranks. Will get the black one piece. Needs new fork, a kona p2 would be ideal.

Coaster brake is so so, it'll do for new but I certainly need a front brake, once I find a 1 inch p2 I'll run a set of vs up front 20220831_131450.webp

Doubt it'll accommodate a 1 1/8, looks a smidgen too small

Actually some folks online are saying the Schwinn headtubes are an oversized 1" and some have put 1 1/8 forks in there... When I feel like it I'll knock out the headset and measure it proper

Finding a set of black mx bars as we speak for ultimate klunk. I know a supplier of cheap high rise steel mx here in Denmark
