Schwinn Cruiser 1988 Wine Red

Man, you can fill a thread. How many pages since the last picture of the bike? I had to dig a little bit. You've decided on a threadless stem, right? I think that should set the tone for the build. 3 piece would be the choice for design cohesion. I've personally never gone 3 piece on an old frame, there are apparently adapters that make it all work. Have you looked into that end of it ?
To my understanding knocking out the bearing cups and installing an American mid bb should do the trick.

I'll be putting the battered profile ahead stem on there with a set of steel MX bars. On the front I'll run a v brake with the p2 fork. I'm currently looking at some nice single bmx levers to use for the front brake.

That's for running like a BSA threaded BB in American BB shell though, if I understand correctly. All I need is a mid BB for 19mm spindles, and then the crankset. Should be no different than installing 3 piece on a BMX with American BB, but I may be wrong.
Haha you've seen through the ruse, when it comes to that "modern" stuff, I know next to nothing. I have never taken apart a threadless stem. I should stick to style advice, I went to design school, not trades.

I will take your advice and get the three piece me thinks. I like one piece but 3 piece is going to be in keeping with the slight retro mod side of it. I may get the black one piece just to try it out and see how it compares, but I reckon I'll be going three piece. About ahead and threaded, I prefer the looks of quill stems but I find the threaded setup inferior to the simplicity of ahead.

Topload bmx stems are by far my favourites these days.
