It is just light rust.

There are a couple of areas on the base of the clips that are heavier but that is what happens to clips. I soak everything overnight in normal oil, I have 3 tubs of oil for the parts - I find soaking in oil just works away slowly at the rust. Clean off the oil, pick off spots of rust with my finger nails then a soft tooth brush with Autosol. I often then soak everything again if needed with more toothbrush polish and then an Autoglym metal polish fluid with a soft cloth and polished off with a clean cloth.

And then repeating it all again if needed. It took 2 overnight soaks before I could start working on the toe clips. Pedal bodies and seat pin, gear levers etc are just metal polish and cloth.

Any bolt heads with heavier rust get a soft wire brush run over them.

Yes, time and patience. I'm in no rush to complete this bike, there isn't a deadline for it. I want it right and I want it completely original. The 50th anniversary kit is so expensive that I couldn't afford to replace any parts to gain a quick and easy fix, I also don't want to stuff up any of the gold.

Thank you. Everything so far is original, I even saved all the inner and outer cable ferrules to re-use and all the original Campagnolo cables with the <c> logo stamped on the cable heads (you just cannot get these anymore!)

The only issue is bar tape (which I don't think is original to the bike), and the brake lever hoods which are split and hard and look like they will tear as soon as I touch them.

I want to move the brake levers as they are positioned too low, they need to come up which means removing the tape.




Everything else is still cleaning up beautifully.

Original cables and all the inner and outer cable ferrules have been saved so that I can re-use them.

Almost done... just bar tape and hoods to sort, then I can cut brake cables to final length and get the original cable ends fitted
