SB8790 SBDU Nottingham 531c 24" Lo Pro Road "As New"

I was offered what was described as a 'Mint' frame, built up but never ridden. The frame was built by SBDU Nottingham in 1987 and shipped directly to its new owner in Australia - the frame comes with the original Raleigh box, TI compliments slip and shipping 'telegram' with info on flight details from Singapore to Australia.

It arrived earlier today and it is as far as I can tell, an unridden frame, there is not a mark on it apart from wheel QR marks and a serrated washer imprint on the fork crown. The owner brought it back to the UK about 15-20 years ago. This guy apparently also had a similar unridden condition Cinelli track frame and a Gios Super Record (still with its polystyrene box).

Here are some images...

I cannot see any sign that this frame has been outside on the road, the internals of the seat tube, fork column and BB are all spotlessly clean, like new. Probably as close as I will ever get to a NOS 'still in the box' SBDU frame.

Re:

Wow. They don't really come any NOS'er.

The 'peg' holding the DS chainstay to the BB casting is just a little bit scary....

By scary I don't mean the method of holding the two together prior to brazing, I mean the actual peg / 1" roofing nail.

Re:

Blimey… yeah. I think I can see the outline of the pegs through the paint under the BB shell too. That is some thin paint..

Thank you, it really is sparkly new! I will build it but getting parts of a similar clean and unused quality isn't going to happen overnight or be cheap. It has the Campagnolo transfer on the chainstay and has the stack height of a Corsa Record headset so that may be the way to go with the build. And yes, you do need to be careful sticking your fingers inside tubes!

Re:

amazing....there's nearly an argument to leave this one in the box....value wise (much like an unopened star wars toy) you'd have to think its value would appreciate more not built up. Not that that's why you collect them Neil.

Any idea why it was never ridden?
