Looks like you've got your work cut out with that one, but I'm sure it'll be spectacular when it's completed. Looking forward to this one. . .

And wow! look at those bars!!!!

Lovely!!
That should keep you busy for a while

I do love the early Cannondales, they remind me of time spent staring longingly in the shop window!!

As it goes I brought it home tonight and I've striped it already, does anyone know what an SR logo stands for it's on the pedals and seat post? Also what rims it should have as they don't match, the front I'm sure is the original as it's stamped cannondale and sun but the rear is an araya.

If any of you guys have a matching rear (so 24") I'm very interested it's a flat wide rim which has both SUN and CANNONDALE stamped on it.

SR Sakae, I Think , rings a bell with me (maybe suntour?), Taiwanese if I remember correctly.
couldnt tell from the pics if it was a 24" wheel , should it have a rollercam on the rear too?? :?

Nahh it's a 1985 SM500 if you check the archive to completely restore this all I need is Sun metal extruded aluminium 24" rear rim a 24" and a 26" Cheng shin knobby raised centre rib tyre and a brooks europa saddle.

the front mech and crank aren't original but are of the same era and are probably slightly better than the original so I think they can stay.

Ahh thanks for the info fatfixie. Operation '85 is well under way the bike is striped back to components and all the paint is stripped from the frameset,

Looking good so far parts needed are the rubber thumb shifter grip from a M700 left hand thumb shifter, a 28 tooth biopace (oval) granny ring in silver 5 bolt, haven't measured it but I'm sure it'll be 110 bcd, a flat box type rim 30mm wide in silver to match the one in the picture and finally a pair of amber/skin wall tyres 26" front and 24" rear (does onza make a 24" rear tyre? if so I've got loads of 26" fronts).

Pictures to follow

Staf.

Really looking forward to seeing this. Always fancied one... perhaps one day I'll come across another!
