Not seen or read any of that anywhere since it would, afaik, be declared as AONB's or suchlike...

The later is the types of forest for sale, not the former, have a walk round one and you'll see they are devoid of nearly all wildlife.

I agree; both make great riding country

My house backs onto ancient oak woodland that is owned by the National Trust and as it is an SSSI, cycling is restricted. If we let the pine forests etc slip out of our hands, we cannot expect all the other woodland to be open to us; whether bikers or walkers.

The government seem hell-bent on selling anything and everything they can to cut back the amount we owe, therefore easy targets like this are the first in line. We've already seen they have capped councils, cut back on education and slashed jobs throughout the country. However, the banks that caused the financial problems in the first place by buying and selling bad debt, have got off practically scot free. For instance, did you know that the area that caused the financial meltdown in the UK, central London, is the least affected by the cutbacks? Ironic isn't it. Or maybe it isn't...

So, if you are happy to let them sell off these woodlands, let them do it. They say it will only be in England (yeah right!) and I live in Wales, therefore I shouldn’t be bothered by it. However, I see this as the thin end of the wedge. Or am I a just a cynic? Only time will tell…

Signed!

The lady in your avatar is utterly stunning.

Do you think she would like a little drive in my car?

You've just given an example of a charity restricting access to a forest. I gave you an example of a private company making a big cycle and walking centre (Coed Llandegla). What other evidence is there that private companies will shut the forests other than "people" saying so? As has been said, Footpaths and Bridleways are protected by LAW. If you buy a house with some land that has a path running through it you cannot stop people using it. Other access rights will be written in the sale deeds so that the companies have to provide access.

I don't think you really have a grasp on the scale of the debt. We really are in deep poo. Yes I agree the banks should do more concidering, but we cannot bash them too much otherwise they will up sticks and move to China, leaving the UK with a tiny manufacturing capability and bugger all else, then we really will be stuffed.

I would rather them not be sold but I don’t think it will be as bad as is being made out by the left wing media.

Save Our Forests!!!

You've made some good points and I take them all on board

My main concern with what you have rightly written is that if changing the law i.e. access rights, is shown to benefit the country finacially, do you think the government will stand in the way? Certainly the ramblers association and the 'horsey crowd' will get a voice but will we? We were certainly left out in the cold in other rounds of talks when bridleways etc were discussed. Even the CTC gave us little support...

I don't want us to end up being viewed on in the same way as 4x4 owners access; especially as we leave a lighter footprint than walkers!
