Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job finished apologies

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

Are you getting any green paint ? Come on you know you should. BTW please call that blue Sonic , its the fender name for that colour and it sounds far more masculine

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

From back to front, Poppy, White and Oxford, showing through Delphinium.

Just finished rubbing down and a coat of quick drying household primer. First colour coats this evening. Once all the paint is on there will only be room for a 1.5

I shall take a pic once the couloirs are there.

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

Medication is a wonderful thing..............

Ode to saracen

Pillar to post, unwanted nomad
Catharsis, crusade, in cardiac confinement.
Hand built in England as were we both.
Patriot colours through blue of birth.

Through wet and dry caress the steel
Through rust and dust sweet charm revealed.
Through shameless build to winter hack
Through field and forest, trail and track.

Couplets cannot convey my bond
With lifeless, 'only a Saracen' frame
From Coomber's cave it moves beyond
With head and heart I find the same
frisson when gifted, conveyed gladly
place your bets the build ends badly.

Vogons schmogons!

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

It's also time for me to invest in some proper lubes and grease. Please advise re headset and bb greasing and general chain etc as I just use an old pot of copper axle grease and Gt85 at present. The copper stuff runs out when it gets warm.

Advice re specific please. Not extract of monkey scrotum type extravagance but just good run of the mill stuff. Lots to choose from.

Thanks

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

Grease, I use a pot of waterproof grease for general stuff like hubs and bb's, I also have a tube of the shimano green stuff HERE for more fiddly items

Chain wise depends on conditions and ATM I am using THIS as they don't have a flooded specific  GT85 is good for a quick blast after a hose down , dry and then lube as to me most damage is done when you leave a bike for a few days with some water left on the chain.

Anyway what a great new life for Coombers old frame  , you will have to think of a cunning name for the beast now won't you ;)

Re: Saracen LE Rescue and Relic paint Job

Definately green top coat
Not sure about grease as Im using some found in my crane mechanics van  but I use Pedro's chain lube . Seems to work well this time of year , and Pedro's ice wax for the summer
Hope that helps mate
