Saracen Kili Flyer 87

Thought I'd better get this up. It's the rare colour with just the stem in the catalogue. Pretty sure it's the original paint but for some reason without any decals except on the headtube - even the 531 one is missing. Perhaps to deter theft?

It's an original saracen rack on the back - the widest I've ever seen!

Re:

Cheers guys :D

Another one in that colour or another Saracen for me?

Yes to both! This one's a keeper for sure, fits me and rides like a dream. The solid axles make it perfect for towing my trailer.

Re:

Meant another biy of filleted saracen.

Looks great. Saracen paint was always marvelous

Re:

Cheers Coomber :D

I was wondering whether it was actually fillet-brazed. Far as I know you can't weld 531 but Dr Carlos had one and in this thread he says it's not fillet-brazed:(viewtopic.php?f=4&t=318313&p=2383271&hilit=saracen+Kili#p2383271). Saracen called it smooth brazed in the catalogue.

Reading through some other threads it seems this is pretty special! I knew it was, but I'm surprised at the kind of language Sinnerman was using (not that kind! Extremely positive). Well it won't get serious off road abuse which is a shame but good for preservation. It will be my adventure bike which I think is a fitting role. Once I've got used to it over the next few weeks it will go in the loft where it's warm and dry, always ready for action for trips away and the like, with trailer or panniers.

I've been wanting something like that for ages rather than the usual mad rush to get repairs done before we go!

Re:

Very cool. Love the original colour matched pannier rack. The catalogue calls it 'Electric Blue'.

Re:

As with most Saracens, the decals were applied on top of the powder coated finish. As such they were always pretty easy to remove.
So not that surprising that they are gone after nearly 30 years.

Beauty. I'm still gutted that the one I bought had a cracked rear drop out. If you need any gruppo spares let me know dude.

Re:

Yeah I saw that, real shame. Mine's all complete and in good nick thankfully, except the pedals and there's some on the way. I'll bear it in mind though!
